Week beginning 23/2/15

RE

Lent. We will talk about Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent. We will change our prayer focus and talk about the colour purple, how long Lent lasts, why we have Lent, how we can be more like Jesus and prayer during Lent. We will all make a Lenten Promise and talk about saying sorry. We will share the Wednesday Word and read stories from the Bible.

Communication, language and literacy
“Jack and the Beanstalk” is our traditional story this week. We are going to share and retell the story through words, songs, pictures and writing. We will practise our letter formation, sentence structure, high frequency words and hear and write the sounds in words.
We will share read the big book “My Bean Diary”. We will play CVC games including Buried Treasure.

Mathematics

We will focus on subtraction this week through practical activities using the “eggs” from Jack and the Beanstalk story, using subtraction language. Take away, subtract, less, fewer, not as many. How many eggs did Jack take? How many are left? We will sing and role play subtraction songs and rhymes and reorder a numbered beanstalk.

Physical Development

Travelling across/over large apparatus in the hall.
Outdoor - large wheeled toys/ hoops/ balls
Fine motor activities and handwriting practice/cutting collage

 Understanding the world/Expressive arts and design.
