Weeks beginning 7/7/14 and 14/7/14


RE
Over the next two weeks we will continue to focus on “prayer”. We will say and write our own prayers, including asking God to help us and thanking him for something/someone we appreciate.
We will celebrate our first year in Holy Souls School and celebrate the times Y6 have spent here too.
We will make a special bookmark for our Year 5 Guardian Angels and spend some special time with them. During the final week of the year we will join the whole school celebrating Mass at church.

Communication, language and literacy
Continuing our topic on “Animals” we will read, discuss and write about different animal stories, including non-fiction books, “Shark’s Tooth”,  “Hermit the Crab’s new Shell”, “Can I have a Pet?” and “Monkey Puzzle”.
We will write captions and sentences from “Letters and Sounds” , write about our year in Reception and un jumble sentences.

Mathematics
Using our number skills we will continue to work out “how many more” to make a given set. We will use money and shopping activities to add/ take away/double/share and count on.

Physical Development
We will continue to develop our ball and Fit 4 Schools skills. We will use a variety of tools and equipment to create collages and dough designs.

Understanding the world
We’ll read the story “Peepo” and look at the objects and lifestyles in the past.
Using our water trays we will experiment with a variety of objects to see which will sink and which will float.
We will find out how we use different technology in our home and in school.
The last week of term is “One World Week” in school and we will explore other faiths and cultures.
We will continue to explore festivals of light -  Easter, Eid, Diwali and Hannukah.

Expressive arts and design
We will use a variety of materials to design and make collages and models. We will listen and move to different types of music. We will record our class singing some of our favourite songs!
