Week beginning 9/2/15

RE
We will talk about when we go to church and that Sunday is a special day of celebration for the Church.  What do we do when we go to church?  What/who do we see when we go to church? We will look at some pictures of church and the altar and some objects found on the altar during Mass. (candles, crucifix, bible, chalice etc.)
We will understand that people who go to church are part of the parish community and think about the different things that people do during the celebration of Mass e.g singing, reading from the Bible, saying prayers, receiving Jesus in communion, etc.
We will talk about people who are too sick to go to Mass and that Father David /Father Craig/ people from the Parish visit them.  Why does the parish take care of sick people?
Prayer Service – Including sorry prayer for the times we have made a wrong choice, prayers of thanks for the love and care we receive from God and through other people/pray for the sick.
Wednesday Word/stories from the Bible.
Communication, language and literacy
This week’ we are exploring Chinese New Year. We will take part in, along with other activities, dressing in traditional costumes/ tasting Chinese food /making lanterns and watching Dragon dancing. We are going to talk, draw and write independently  about what we have participated in and observed. We will hear, say and write the sounds in words and write high frequency words e.g. I, he, the, and. We are going to play the game “Buried Treasure” matching CVC words (and words with sh/ch) and make new words, listen to/say first sounds of different objects. We will practice forming our letters correctly.
Mathematics
We will continue to focus on addition using a car park and cars as our activity. We will use the language of addition e.g. more, add, How many now? double.
We will count a set of objects, recognise numbers, estimate, reorder a jumbled number track and learn how to share a set of items with a group – starting with chopsticks!  How many will each child have? Is their share an equal share? Why/not?
